Match Report for 1st XV 14/12/2019 versus Berkswell and Balsall Lost 20-22

OC's let the game slip away and Berkswell and Balsall win 22-20
A disappointing afternoon as OC's contribute to their own downfall and Berkswell and Balsall snatch victory in the final few minutes on Saturday 14th December.
OC's had a significant advantage in the first period with the slope and wind but they couldn't make it pay. Alex Telfer on a couple of occasions put kicks in to get us to the B and B 5 metre line but we came away with nothing. B and B on the other hand put the OC defence under great pressure when they got close and two of their three tries came from forward drives.
So, we had our opportunities but the final plays were error strewn and we gifted B and B a couple of scores. Fair play to Band B they were solid in defence bringing off good tackles on both our wings and very solid at the breakdown.
We are down in the bottom left corner with a couple of linesout but B and B resist and get back to our half. Second row Jack Fennell makes a great run down the middle but is brought to a halt on the 22 metre line. We get a penalty and Alex Telfer converts after 15 minutes. We are pressurising the home side and have the territory advantage. Ollie Clark is playing well at centre and breaks into the B and B 22 area. We mess up from a lineout 5 metres out on the right and B and B relieve but are penalised and Alex Telfer gets his second opportunity and makes no mistake with the kick. 6-0 up after 30 minutes but it needed to be more with the advantage of the elements. B and B retrieve their own restart kick and with a few forward drives they cross. A slender lead now to OC's 5-6 .
We have the ball in our own half and Full back Alex Telfer joins the line and although held up he manages to offload to Ollie Clark who injects some pace and crosses just right of the posts and Alex adds the extras.
B and b bounce back within a couple of minutes again. The half is coming to a close and OC's have the ball but what should have been a long clearance kick with the help of the wind turns out to be a little chip into the hands of a B and B three quarter who cross for a gift try. So the home team only a point behind 12-13 and the half finishes with Josh James making a good run down the right but an excellent tackle ends the opportunity and the first period comes to a close.
A bit of pressure on the OC's right side. A let off for OC's as B and B miss the kick after a double penalty. It's OC's turn to attack up the right side with runs from John Ames, Josh James and Ollie Clark. We have a 5 metre lineout on the right but we come away with nothing and it is B and B's turn to encamp in the bottom right corner. Their control and persistent drives gets the reward with a converted try and a lead of 19-13 after about 25 minutes of the second period. OC's respond; the wind has dropped a little and they make their way up the slope and have a 5 metre scrum on the left side. It's won and a couple of recycles sees Paul Wilkes come up with the ball for the try which Alex Telfer converts to edge his side into a single point lead 19-20.
There is probably about 5 minutes of play left and B and B kick to the right corner. The clearance lick is charged down and the ensuing play brings a penalty for the home side to put them back ahead 22-20. OC' make some great efforts to come back but they just run out of time.
One or two good performances today but it just didn't gel and our mistakes cost us dear.
