OC's salvage a single bonus point in defeat to Berkswell and Balsall 20-38

OC's were always playing catch up on the scoreboard in this game although the passages of play didn't reflect this. It was 15 minutes before Berkswell and Balsall entered the OC's half but it was B and B who would have a couple of tries on the scoreboard before 25 minutes had elapsed. OC's would also score a brace from Dom Ames in the first period but B and B got to the break 7 points ahead because they converted their tries and added a penalty. OC's are up in the B and B 22 frequently but the defence holds out. B and B first skirmish into OC's territory gets them close on the right with a 5 metre scrum but we clear but not for long. The scrum half starts a run on the left from his own 22 and a kick ahead is gathered and a try between. It looked too easy. This score seemed to give the B and B backs confidence and they ran more frequently and popped over for another converted try on 25 minutes.
OC's are peppering away at the B and B line and force a yellow card from the struggling defence. Finally from a 5 metre penalty Dom Ames crashes over for our first score. B and B increase their lead with a simple penalty goal quite close to the break. However there is still time for OC's pressure to be rewarded when Dom again goes over from a tapped penalty.
17-10 at the break.
So 2 tries apiece but we have a slope and wind in our favour in the second period. However we can't take advantage of this. We should be using the wind to play the game in the B and B 22 but it's not happening. B and B are running at us with the No10 controlling things and after 15 minutes of the second half they increase their lead with a bulldozing try which is converted as all of their 5 tries during the afternoon would be. That score is a blow but we are just outside the B and B 22 and we manage to attack from a tapped lineout. Josh McMurray makes a lovely run commiting a couple of tacklers and he is able to offload to Elliot Sheepy who has popped up on the left wing and he strides over after 25 minutes of the period. So, still in contention with a good 15 minutes to play. However it is B and B who exert the pressure and from a scrum in our half and a back row pick up the ball comes right on the narrow side for a try after 32 minutes. We suffer some injuries. Jack Fennel gets a nasty blow to the head. He has been majestic in the lineout. Centre Alex Kelly also has to leave the field with an ankle injury. Our attack and defence is now impaired and the B and B backs take advantage. Some good breaks and good hands give them a final opportunity close to the game end which gives them a 38-15 advantage.
OC's are not finished. Josh McMurray has moved into the scrum half slot and he gets the ball moving from recycled possession. A good movement gets us a penalty on the right about 30 metres out. Skipper Paul Wilkes takes the tap and runs the distance himself for a bonus point try.
Fair play to the boys who played today. Some boys out there today who have not played regularly at this level but they gave everything and did the club proud.

Please read and note the latest letter from Warwickshire RFU Disciplinary Committee which sets out increased sanctions. Everyone should read this - not just PLAYERS but SPECTATORS and COACHES as well. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT: SPECTATORS (you know who you are) BARRACKING FROM THE TOUCHLINE CAN INCITE THE PLAYERS. The officials do a difficult job and without them we would not be playing rugby - remember regardless of what you think they are always right - just accept it and quietly walk away. If you get carded you are letting down your team, even more so if you pick up a ban which is now likely to be extremely lengthy so READ about it HERE TAKE IT IN in and REMEMBER IT DURING THE GAME - do not let down your team and club.

Recycle for Cycling

This is an update for parents from our Mini and Junior Section. We now have a set of pop-up banners for our mini age groups (under 7s to under 12s) for use during home and away matches and for training. Sylvia would like to thank everyone who donated rugby kit for us to re-sell. We raised £570 which helped to contribute towards them. The aim for the 2019 / 2020 season is to buy a bike rack. Sylvia hopes to achieve this with the valuable help from Anna and Jack.

Thank you Sylvia Cobbold
