A comfortable 38-12 victory for OC's at the expense of visitors Stoke Old Boys

Newly promoted Stoke Old Boys provided a great challenge for the OC's 1st XV squad at Tile Hill lane on Saturday. Despite turning round 26 points adrift at the interval Stoke had got close a couple of times and maintained some pressure on the OC's line. They put the OC scrummage under pressure making it difficult for scrum half Corey joy to provide fast ball moving forward. The OC defence was strong in the main until a couple of lapses late in the game.
Stoke started strong and retrieved their own kick off form the start whistle. This got them a penalty and a lineout 5 metres out from the OC's line. OC's robbed the line and Elliot Sheepy was able to clear our line to almost midfield. We won a scrum and the ball comes to Jake Shellis on the right wing who puts in an inside kick ahead. Young Jack Tolley gets his hands on the ball and he crosses for the first try after about 4 minutes played. Elliot converts.
We get another within a couple of minutes after the ball is moved left and Liam O'Neil makes excellent ground on the left and Elliot Sheepy is on hand to take the inside pass and cross for the try which he converts himself. So, 14-0 up inside 10 minutes and we don't have to wait much longer for the next. Josh kent takes good lineout ball and Scott Parry breaks and we are up to the Stoke 5 metre line. Stoke relieve the pressure a little but we are still thereabouts and Jake Shellis gathers a kick ahead to his right wing and manages to offload to Josh James coming in from fullback who in turn feeds Elliot who romps home for his second try of the afternoon.
OC's keep the pressure on and force a penalty infringement about 15 metres out. Corey Joy is always looking for the quick take opportunity and he takes the tap and easily avoids the retreating would be tacklers to cross between. Elliot adds the extras to make the interval score 26-0 and importantly a try bonus point.
We are a little slower to get going in the second period despite some excellent endeavour from young centre Ollie Clark. We have a lineout about 30 metres out, well taken by Josh Kent who drives forward from his own catch. Scott Parry has made an angled run toward the left touch and he gets the pass and outstrips the defenders in a charge very close to the touch to get the score and a 31-0 lead 10 minutes into the second period.
Stoke sides don't lie down and they had a twenty minute period of good pressure. They thwarted a couple of OC opportunities but showed some good skills to get the ball back into attacking positions through good hands and elusive running. They were rewarded with a couple of good tries wrong footing the OC defenders.
Stoke had pulled the score back to 31-12 but it was OC's who would have the last word. Elliot makes a good break and Ollie Clark takes it on drifting to the left touchline. Liam O'Neill comes inside from his left wing, takes the offload and and scores for the final try which Elliot converts and a final scoreline of 38-12.
Some excellent plays today. Felt we missed the opportunity to push home our superiority today and lost a bit of momentum during periods of the second half. A lot to do with Stokes tenacity, so well played to them. An enjoyable afternoon.

ABUSE OF MATCH OFFICIALS-SANCTIONS 2018: ALL PLEASE NOTE

Please read and note the latest letter from Warwickshire RFU Disciplinary Committee which sets out increased sanctions. Everyone should read this - not just PLAYERS but SPECTATORS and COACHES as well. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT: SPECTATORS (you know who you are) BARRACKING FROM THE TOUCHLINE CAN INCITE THE PLAYERS. The officials do a difficult job and without them we would not be playing rugby - remember regardless of what you think they are always right - just accept it and quietly walk away. If you get carded you are letting down your team, even more so if you pick up a ban which is now likely to be extremely lengthy so READ about it HERE TAKE IT IN in and REMEMBER IT DURING THE GAME - do not let down your team and club.

This is an update for parents from our Mini and Junior Section. We now have a set of pop-up banners for our mini age groups (under 7s to under 12s) for use during home and away matches and for training. Sylvia would like to thank everyone who donated rugby kit for us to re-sell. We raised £570 which helped to contribute towards them. The aim for the 2019 / 2020 season is to buy a bike rack. Sylvia hopes to achieve this with the valuable help from Anna and Jack.

Thank you Sylvia Cobbold
