Kenilworth 20 OC's 5 on Saturday 15th December.

To the casual observer it will not have been evident that this was an encounter between the top and bottom teams in the league at the halfway stage of the season.
Kenilworth made an early visit to the OC 22 but the OC's drove the ball with continuous possession into the Kenilworth 5 metre area. It was terrific to watch as the boys progressed with waves of drives. Elliot Sheepy playing at No10 today consistently crossed the gain line for his forwards to carry on the job. The first ten minutes of this tactic paid off when Tom Kimberly crossed (I think he'll claim it). It doesn't really matter because the whole eight were involved in the score.
For some period now the play is generally between the two 22 metre lines. Considering the atrocious conditions; (the game had to be completed under floodlights) the handling was good. Steven Farrell was tested with a couple of high kicks to his wing but he was solid.
Personally I am just in awe of the flexibility of the boys. I played for forty years in the second row. I wasn't safe anywhere else. Our centres today were Paddy Barrett and Josh Kent. Paddy has previously been selected to start at scrum half and on the wing. Josh has played at second row and back row. What a performance from these two boys. Nothing got passed them, the tackling was superb and the Kenilworth back line were never allowed to run with the ball. It would be wrong not to mention the versatility of the skipper Elliot Sheepy who has also appeared at hooker, back row and No10. He did everything right today in the wind and rain.
Kenilworth managed a bit of possession and created an overlap for the right wing to touch down from close in on the right after 25 minutes to level the scores.
The battle was evenly fought; strong runs from Scott Parry from No8 taken on by the rest of the forwards. An incident close to the break saw a player from each side penalised. The Kenilworth lad saw yellow but the OC player was for some reason more severely dealt with and he was dismissed for the duration.
Five points each to start the second period but the referees decision would play its part in the proceedings. Playing with a forward down for the whole of the half was difficult and Kenilworth were able to get a well drilled driving maul to work and they took the lead 12 minutes into the half. Another came after 25 minutes from a similar driving maul. Kenilworth managed their try bonus point when a loose ball was kicked through and They won the race to the touchdown on the right.
Proud to be an OC supporter today. There will be a lot to do to drag ourselves from the bottom of this league when the season resumes next year but based upon the tenacity and determination shown by the lads today, everything is possible. Well done boys.

ABUSE OF MATCH OFFICIALS-SANCTIONS 2018: ALL PLEASE NOTE

Please read and note the latest letter from Warwickshire RFU Disciplinary Committee which sets out increased sanctions. Everyone should read this - not just PLAYERS but SPECTATORS and COACHES as well. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT: SPECTATORS (you know who you are) BARRACKING FROM THE TOUCHLINE CAN INCITE THE PLAYERS. The officials do a difficult job and without them we would not be playing rugby - remember regardless of what you think they are always right - just accept it and quietly walk away. If you get carded you are letting down your team, even more so if you pick up a ban which is now likely to be extremely lengthy so READ about it HERE TAKE IT IN in and REMEMBER IT DURING THE GAME - do not let down your team and club.
