Coronavirus Update

Following government advice, the RFU will suspend all rugby activity in England from 17 March until 14 April subject to continued review. Further information is available in the link below.

With the government now recommending limiting social gatherings the club has taken the decision to temporarily postpone all future social events that had been planned between now & the end of the season and the club will also be closed to members until further notice. For anyone who has already bought tickets for any future events refunds will be available if you are unable to make the rescheduled date or if the event is cancelled.
The Committee will provide further updates once more information is available. In the meantime please all keep safe, look after yourselves and those around you, particularly those who are more vulnerable to the virus & follow government advice. We?ll hopefully be seeing you all back at OC?s playing rugby & enjoying a few drinks with friends and family soon

Eight tries overcome a spirited Stoke side for a 44-14 victory on 14th March

Some good football today. Some enterprising plays from both side. I think Stoke were surprised by the quality of the defensive tackling. They recycled the ball well but could not make ground. A few too many penalties at the breakdown from OC's, especially early on. Stoke made OC's work for there reward and they kept the visitors at bay for the first 20 minutes of both halves with some excellent turnovers.
Stoke have the possession early on but they are pinned in their own half. A couple of OC chances go awry also. No 10 Harvey Joy makes a good break but passes go loose. Josh James crosses at one point but the try is disallowed. So, on 20 minutes Stoke are on their line trying to clear and Josh Kent seizes a loose pass and feeds Paul Wilkes for the first try.
Ollie Clark makes a great run on the right. A pass to the wing may have been the best option but it never came although from an ensueing lineout Paul Wilkes carries and Dom Ames gets the second touchdown. Ollie gets another chance after some drives on the right and he gets a scoring pass on the left to canter over for his first of a brace of tries today to make the score 15-0.
It's getting close to the break when Stoke slip in for what was probably the best score of the afternoon which came from a Stoke scrum just inside the OC half. The Stoke runner took an inside pass at pace and he scythed through the defence with a shimmying run without a finger laid upon him. OC's quickly replied when we ran it out from inside our own 22 with Jake Shellis initially followed by Elliot Sheepy for Mickael Ryan to cross.. >br> 7-22 at the break and a try bonus point in the bag.
Again the second half starts slowly with turnovers and errors but 20 minutes in Josh James starts a good run on the left but he is well tackled but we still have it and Jake Shellis makes ground before feeding Corey Joy for his try. Elliot converts as he had done with the try immediately prior to the interval.
We have scored a couple of times from deep positions and from a scrum on our line Jake Shellis makes a run down the right. He can't quite get into free space but Ollie Clark can and he scores his second for a 7-34 scoreline.
It hasn't been an ill tempered game today but there were a number of yellow cards. OC's got three of them and Stoke a couple and with men off the pitch Stoke manage another try following some drives on the left. 14-34
A lot of extra time being played and OC's have time for a couple more tries. The first from Scott Parry after a strong Tom Fletcher run and the finale from young second row Jack Fennell who finishes off an attack down the right which passed through several hands.
Another good win and the prize of the league championship is very visible.
Keep it going lads.

SENIOR / COLTS TRAINING - 2019/20 Season!

For the new season OCs will be running a 1st XV and The Archers (a 2nd XV) with occasional Vets matches. Coaches will be Alan Roberts and Marc Thomas. Senior Training (17+) is every Tuesday and Thursday for rugby related fitness with ball skills. NEW PLAYERS OF ALL ABILITIES WELCOME. New Season Start date Tuesday 2nd July 2019.

Please read and note the latest letter from Warwickshire RFU Disciplinary Committee which sets out increased sanctions. Everyone should read this - not just PLAYERS but SPECTATORS and COACHES as well. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT: SPECTATORS (you know who you are) BARRACKING FROM THE TOUCHLINE CAN INCITE THE PLAYERS. The officials do a difficult job and without them we would not be playing rugby - remember regardless of what you think they are always right - just accept it and quietly walk away. If you get carded you are letting down your team, even more so if you pick up a ban which is now likely to be extremely lengthy so READ about it HERE TAKE IT IN in and REMEMBER IT DURING THE GAME - do not let down your team and club.

Recycle for Cycling

This is an update for parents from our Mini and Junior Section. We now have a set of pop-up banners for our mini age groups (under 7s to under 12s) for use during home and away matches and for training. Sylvia would like to thank everyone who donated rugby kit for us to re-sell. We raised £570 which helped to contribute towards them. The aim for the 2019 / 2020 season is to buy a bike rack. Sylvia hopes to achieve this with the valuable help from Anna and Jack.

Thank you Sylvia Cobbold
