OC's lose to Old Laurentian 34-15 in a "Strange Encounter"

Midlands 2 West(South)
Old Laurentian 34 Old Coventrians 15
A puzzling encounter at Fenley Field which saw OC's take the lead within the first minute with a Scott Parry try on the left. Old Laurentian quickly hit back with a couple of penalty kicks from John Brown and two tries from winger Luke Townsend. A Chas Hudson try brought OC's back into contention with another try on the left but Luke Townsend would claim his hat trick for OL's on the stroke of half time. 27-10 at the break.
The second half proved frustrating for OC's. They retrieved their own restart kick and would spend all but a couple of minutes of the second period encamped in the OL half. They peppered away at the OL line with forward drives but the OL defence held for almost 30 minutes before Stuart Lee managed to cross on the right. The barrage of drives continued from OC's and what would have been a scoring pass on the OL line was intercepted by Greg Loydall and he raced the length of the field for the touchdown. So a couple of bonus points were snatched away from OC's with the final play of the game.
The opening try came from the kick off. Paul Wilkes takes and feeds Jordan Diston who races through the defenders. The drive continues with Chas Hudson and finally comes to second row Scott Parry on the left for the score. John Brown narrows the gap almost immediately with a penalty. Territory is pretty much evenly shared in this first half but unfortunately OC's give OL's possession and territory with too many penalties committed at the breakdown when they are attacking. OL's are about 30 metres out and despite OC's putting the set piece under pressure OL's manage to get the ball wide on the left for Luke Townsends first try. Townsend's second comes from an OL lineout on the right from which the ball is moved all the way left which sees the winger cross out wide but manage to touch down between.
OC's reply comes after a strong run from wing Josh James. Chas Hudson and Stuart Lee carry it on before Chas breaks clear for OC's second try. OC's continue the pressure and are close to the OL 22. They concede a penalty; the referee is harassed and gives a penalty 10 metres on which is taken quickly and Townsend scores his hat trick.
27-10 at the break.
OC's dominate the second half; lots of pressure but can't get past the OL defence. A few linesout lost close in but Stuart Lee finally manages to bustle over. It's getting late in the game but OC's look to get that fourth try and close the gap to 7 points but the interception kills all hopes of a couple of bonus points and despite some great performances from the lads we come away with nothing.

The Archers had a decent squad out against Manor Park and ran out winners 57-12.

ABUSE OF MATCH OFFICIALS-SANCTIONS 2018: ALL PLEASE NOTE

Please read and note the latest letter from Warwickshire RFU Disciplinary Committee which sets out increased sanctions. Everyone should read this - not just PLAYERS but SPECTATORS and COACHES as well. PLEASE THINK ABOUT IT: SPECTATORS (you know who you are) BARRACKING FROM THE TOUCHLINE CAN INCITE THE PLAYERS. The officials do a difficult job and without them we would not be playing rugby - remember regardless of what you think they are always right - just accept it and quietly walk away. If you get carded you are letting down your team, even more so if you pick up a ban which is now likely to be extremely lengthy so READ about it HERE TAKE IT IN in and REMEMBER IT DURING THE GAME - do not let down your team and club.
